The outside is a wooded area with a clearing from the cottage to the water. The shoreline is a combination of small rocks, gravel and sand. There is a picnic table, gas grill, and a fireplace just outside the front door. There is a private dock that ends in an eight by eight foot section. This allows plenty of room for relaxing in chairs or laying in the sun. For those who prefer the shade, there is a hammock strung between two birch trees. Also included with the rental is a canoe along with paddles and life jackets.
Crystal Lake is approximately 100 acres with very little development. It is a very quiet lake with minimal motor boat activity. Wildlife includes nesting loons and families of ducks. There have been reports of bald eagle sightings. For anyone interested in fishing, the lake is stocked yearly with brown trout. It also contains plenty of smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pickerel, yellow perch, and sunfish.
The cottage is located in the town of Washington. It is about half-way between the state capitol (Augusta) and the scenic coastal town of Camden. Either town is about a thirty minute drive from Washington. Recreation available in the area includes activities such as hiking, sailing trips, sea kayaking, biking, and golfing.
